Opening a pack should be the fun part. Taking your time and keeping pressure away from the cards can help reduce accidental bends and nicks. No opening method can guarantee perfect card condition.
Start with a clear workspace
Use clean, dry hands and a clear surface. Have sleeves ready if you plan to protect the cards after opening. Avoid squeezing or bending the card stack while you work on the wrapper.
Opening a pack by hand
- Locate a sealed seam and check where the cards sit inside the wrapper.
- Gently work the wrapper apart while keeping pressure away from the cards. Stop and reposition if it resists.
- Open enough of the wrapper to remove the stack without dragging card corners against a tight opening.
- Handle the revealed cards carefully by their edges.
Habits to avoid
- Rushing or bending the pack to force it open
- Digging a fingernail toward the card stack
- Cutting a sealed pack when you cannot tell where the cards are
- Assuming every wrapper has the same dimensions or seam
A different motion with The Ripper
We built The Ripper around a simple sequence: load, slide, reveal. Our working prototype uses a thumb-operated slider and a covered, recessed blade to score the sealed top seam. The latest version includes tool-free cleanout.
Correct loading and pack format matter. We will publish confirmed compatibility, age guidance and instructions before launch. Watch the real demonstration rather than assuming a tool fits every pack.
